The monsoon season (in late summer) brings violent but brief thunderstorms, which often cause flash floods. Starting out with cold and cloudy weather, we immediately ran into another hiker who informed us that zebra slot canyon was closed. Be prepared to get some sand in your shoes.

Zebra canyon is said to be the most underwhelming of the three, but also the easiest and boasts stripes across the canyon walls, making it very beautiful. And you absolutely cannot enter a slot canyon when it's raining, because it will fill with water and you will be trapped.

While the hike is only 3.5 miles with minimal elevation gain, the rock scrambling and tight squeezes required to navigate the canyon certainly make it challenging! In the first photo below, the entrance is in the shaded area to the right heading into the canyon.
